About Us
History of the Nedlands YAC
Youth Advisory Councils (YACs) have been established throughout WA in conjunction with local government authorities. The City of Nedlands YAC began in 1999 and is made up of local young people who are interested in local youth issues and planning youth projects.
The purpose of the City of Nedlands YAC is to provide advice on the city’s youth program.
The Nedlands YAC has had great involvement in large projects like the development of the Nedlands skate park on the Nedlands foreshore, the BMX bike facility at College Park, the Youth Administration Liaison Working Group, and Ampfest just to name a few.
If you are interested in joining our YAC please contact the Community Development Officer (Youth and Children).

I’ve been a YAC member since 2005. I like sports like netball, tennis and basketball, and love hanging around with my friends! I joined the YAC so that I could help the council of the City of Nedlands to make decisions about the youth of Nedlands. This way living here as a youth gets to be more fun and we can get more involved! I’ve met a huge range of different people through the YAC and I’ve learnt heaps! Being able to say what I think to the Mayor or councillors, learning how to talk to them and even making pizza with them has been great! The cool events that have been organised with our help or by us are amazing in how many members of the community are involved!

I have been a member of Nedlands Youth Advisory Council
(YAC) since 2005. The reason I like being on YAC is because of the fun and enjoyment of going to these events we have organised and to also give something back to young people of our community. Being a member I’ve realised that events we help organise like AmpFest, wouldn’t be a great success if we weren’t involved. I enjoy sports like hockey, tennis, movies and especially the beach on Christmas holidays at the Gold Coast where I surf. People usually know me for being a sports person. I also rowed for the first eight for CCGS. -

I heard about the YAC through a friend and when we moved to Nedlands in 2005 I joined. I am interested in music and art, and the creative based projects we organise are a great escape from study. I have met great people from within the program and would encourage anyone that is thinking about joining to give it ago.
